Club World Cup: Bayern knock out Flamengo and will face PSG
Bayern Munich clinched a 4-2 victory over Flamengo in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup. With this win, the German side will take on Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals next Saturday.
The match kicked off at a blistering pace. As early as the 6th minute, Flamengo conceded an own goal—Erick Pulgar redirected a corner into his own net. Just four minutes later, Harry Kane doubled the lead with a powerful strike after Upamecano won the ball back.
Flamengo responded in the 33rd minute through Gerson, who capitalized on a poorly cleared ball to score. But right before the break, Leon Goretzka restored Bayern’s two-goal cushion with a pinpoint shot from outside the box.
After the break, Flamengo earned a penalty following a handball by Michael Olise. Jorginho converted, making it 3-2 and breathing new life into the contest. But once again, Harry Kane stepped up, finding the net in the 73rd minute after a defensive blunder from the Brazilian side. It was his second goal of the match and his 41st of the season.
Flamengo couldn’t find a way back. Too many mistakes, too much space left open. Bayern were more solid, calmer, and ruthlessly efficient. PSG have been warned: facing this Bayern side will require something special.
