  • How They Qualified: They were the AFC Champions League 2021 winners.
  • Best CWC Finish: This is their fourth trip. They finished fourth twice (2019, 2021) and were shock runners up in 2022.
  • Recent Form: They finished 2nd in the Saudi Pro League, eight points behind the winner. They were eliminated in the AFC Champions League semi-finals by the eventual winner Al Ahli. Were eliminated in the King’s Cup quarterfinals by eventual winner Al Ittihad Won the Saudi Super Cup in August 2024, beating Al Nassr.
  • Facts:  Founded in 1957. 69% of the team are Saudi. Have played the fourth highest number of competitive games since August 2024 (54). Made global headlines by signing Neymar for a ~$94M transfer fee, and a two-year deal worth $230M (approx. $2.2M per week). During this time Neymar played a total of 428 minutes over seven games, scoring one goal and contributing three assists. It was widely considered the worst signing of all time.

The Hooligan Take

This is the kindest group Al Hilal could have pulled. Pachuca are weaker than usual, and Salzburg is completely beatable on any given day. The Saudi club has a real chance to move on. Their attack is quite formidable, and expect them to be on the front foot from the opening whistle trying to nab that first goal..
