Cody Gakpo was ordained to play for Liverpool.
In life we make plans and God laughs as the common adage goes. Sometimes this can be frustrating. For Cody Gakpo, it certainly was when his move to Manchester United fell through in the summer of 2022.

But there was a greater and higher purpose at play. Gakpo's faith ultimately meant he would join Liverpool and he'd win the Premier League, revealing a shirt with the words 'I belong to God' as the Reds secured the trophy against Tottenham last season.
Gakpo has become an influential figure at Anfield. A player who has started the season very brightly with three goal contributions in four Premier League games.
Over the course of his career, he has averaged 0.69 goal contributions per 90 minutes, an excellent return that makes him one of the best attackers in the club's recent history.
Gakpo's talent seems to run through his family. His not the only one who has made it at PSV Eindhoven.
His cousin, Gino Verhulst is currently representing PSV's U19 team, and recently scored a brace on his first ever start in the UEFA Youth League.
Verhulst is only 18-year-old and he netted on his debut for the Netherland's U19 team earlier in September. In total he has 11 goal contributions in his last 16 appearances for PSV's U19 team both in the league and in the UEFA Youth League.
A very versatile attacker who can play on the left and right-wing as well as through the middle. He is regarded as one of the best prospects in the renowned Eindhoven academy that seems to produce a lot of attacking talent.

As well as Gakpo, PSV's academy also produced Noni Madueke as well as Johan Bakayoko.
Verhulst could be the next one to come through the ranks. Which is why Liverpool should be keeping a close eye on him.
At the same age, Gakpo was showing similar levels at PSV, and there is also a strong Dutch contingent at the club which could help the young teenager get settled.
As well as having a Dutch coaching staff with the likes of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Sipke Hulshoff and Ruben Peters working alongside Arne Slot, there are also four Dutch international footballers at the club in Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Jeremie Frimpong and Virgil van Dijk.
