The Celtic star was stretched off and taken to hospital in Gibraltar and it looks like more bad news for Celtic as yet another first team player is facing a period on the sidelines.

The 19-year-old Celtic defender started the Euro qualifier but suffered the injury after being caught by a late challenge as he cleared the ball from the Scotland penalty area early in the second half. Play was stopped for four minutes as the young Celtic player received treatment.

Colby was then stretched off and taken to an ambulance before heading to hospital. Scotland U21 manager Scott Gemmell spoke after the match which Scotland U21s won 2-0.

“I don’t know the full extent of it. I just know he was taken to the hospital because the ambulance was here. So it’s a case of wait and see, but he’s in good spirits and hopefully it was just precautionary. It’s my understanding the injury was around his ankle area,” Gemmell said.

Martin O’Neill after the win over Kilmarnock confirmed that Canadian International right back Alistair Johnston needed an operation for his hamstring problem so with Colby Donovan sidelined it looks like Anthony Ralston will be the only fit fightback at the club and that looks like being the case during what is an incredibly tough fixture schedule with three games a week for the foreseeable.

Ralston came off the bench in Greece last night and played a part on Scotland’s fightback from 3-0 down, with Steve Clarke’s side coming close to getting point in a 3-2 defeat. The two Scotland goals came from former Celts Ben Doak and Ryan Christie.

That result though didn’t end Scotland’s chances of winning the group and with it an automatic place in next summer’s World Cup Finals across Canada, USA and Mexico. Denmark had beaten Belarus 6-0 in their earlier match but last night were held to a 2-2 draw in Copenhagen.

That means that if Scotland can beat Denmark on Tuesday evening at a sold-out Hampden Park then they will be heading to the World Cup Finals next summer!
