Cole Palmer has revealed his aims at Chelsea are to win trophies and the Ballon d’Or, and given how he’s started at Stamford Bridge you wouldn’t bet against it.

Since arriving at Chelsea from Manchester City for £42.5m in the summer of 2023 Palmer’s rise to the top of the game has been meteoric.

The 22-year-old has arguably established himself as the best player in the league and was named Premier League Young Player of the Year last season after scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists.

Palmer reveals his Chelsea aims

It’s hard to imagine that before the start of last season Palmer hadn’t even scored a Premier League goal and wasn’t even in the England conversation.

His form saw him make his debut for the Three Lions last November and he scored the equaliser in the Euro 2024 final against Spain.

The question facing Palmer heading into this season was whether he could repeat his feats from the previous campaign and he’s made a good start.

Palmer has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier Leauge.

The England international has seven goals and five assists from 11 games, although he’s face increased attention from the opposition this season, and John Obi Mikel has stated he wants to see more from Palmer in the big games.

The sky really does seem to be the limit for Palmer and he recently revealed what his aims were for his time at Chelsea.

“Trophies. [Ballon d’Or] That’s the aim. “I’ve only been playing a year at this level,” he told The Telegraph.

Club legend Gianfranco Zola has backed him to be a future Ballon d’Or winner, whilst Palmer ranked 25th in this year’s award, which was won by City star Rodri.

Palmer is still very inexperienced when it comes to the top level and you have to keep reminding yourself this is just his second season of playing regular football.

The former City man withdrew from the England squad despite going to join up with the team, but that’s very much to Chelsea’s benefit as he will get some time off to recover before the busy run of fixtures in the lead up to Christmas.
