Nico Paz will spend another season at Como, as the Lariani successfully negotiated a new deal after Real Madrid triggered their buyback clause. The Biancoblù accepted the counterparty’s lofty valuation. However, the operation will have a different structure.
According to Fabrizio Romano (via SOSFanta), the Serie A agreed to a €60M price tag for the Argentine but won’t shell out that much pronto. Les Merengues will be able to recall him for €80M next summer. Otherwise, they’ll be granted a large resale clause if he heads elsewhere in 2027. Such a tidbit led to the discount in this window.
Per La Provincia, Paz doubled down on his intention to stay after speaking with new Real Madrid coach José Mourinho, who didn’t guarantee him regular minutes. Instead, he’ll have the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League near the lake.
The Lariani are making a big gamble financially. Their owners, the Hartono family, are billionaires, but the talent’s valuation exceeds the club’s revenue on its own. It was in the red for €110M in 2025/2026. Still, the brass decided to kick the FFP-related problems down the road. There won’t be particular issues if he’s bought back next year; otherwise, they’ll have to enter a settlement agreement with UEFA.
The mechanics are a little strange, but the outcome is the right one. It would have made little sense for him to ride the pine for Los Galacticos. Economically, it’ll be fishy if it doesn’t turn out to be the glorified loan spell or one-year rental it appears to be. We’ll see whether this will hamstring them in other deals, but it surely sends quite a signal to the rest of Serie A.
