Como President Mirwan Suwarso warns Federico Chiesa of Liverpool and Juventus star Andrea Cambiaso are too expensive, while ‘Nico Paz’s future is up to Real Madrid.’

The Lariani have shocked everyone by going from Serie B to Champions League qualification in just over two years, largely thanks to the work of coach Cesc Fabregas.

The club also invested heavily in infrastructure and the squad, so with the step into Europe’s most prestigious competition, they have more work to do.

That includes the Stadio Sinigaglia, which will undergo restructuring work to bring it up to code for the Champions League.

Suwarso sees Como project growing

“Many people thought it would not be possible, but I believe we will play our Champions League home games at the Stadio Sinigaglia,” Suwarso told Tuttomercatoweb during the Festival della Serie A in Parma.

“It was a wonderful moment when we qualified, but we didn’t experience it with too much excitement, we preferred to focus on understanding just what we had achieved. Cesc always believed he could win every game, so we believe in what he believes in.”

There could be some huge teams coming to Como for the Champions League, so who would Suwarso like to host?

“Anyone would be great, but having Manchester United or Real Madrid in Como would be fantastic.”

Reinforcements are required and there have been reports that they are pursuing Liverpool winger Chiesa or Juve full-back Cambiaso.

“We are looking at many players. The price for those players is a bit higher than the range we have in mind, though,” replied the President.

The biggest talent at Como now is undoubtedly Nico Paz, but Real Madrid have a buy-back option worth €9m this summer, rising to €11m if activated in 2027.

“Nico Paz’s future is up to Real Madrid, and so we wait. We didn’t speak to Real Madrid for a long time, but if there are further opportunities, we will be ready to do what is best for Como.”
