Mainz will start the match at the bottom of the standings, but they will get out of the automatic relegation spots if they win.

The visitors are without the suspended Dominik Kohr and Nadiem Amiri, however. Meanwhile, Robin Zentner sustained an injury in their Conference League loss in Romania. Jordy Makengo and Eren Dinkci played in Freiburg's matchday 11 defeat at the Allianz Arena, but they will now have to do without them due to injuries.
