Confirmed: Real Madrid defensive talent joins Serie A club on permanent transfer | OneFootball

Real Madrid have officially confirmed the transfer of academy defender Victor Valdepenas, with the Spanish youngster joining Serie A side Fiorentina on a permanent deal.

“Real Madrid CF and ACF Fiorentina have agreed to the transfer of our player Victor Valdepenas,” the club statement read.

“Real Madrid thanks Valdepenas for his commitment over all these years and wishes him and his family all the best in this new stage of their lives.”

The deal had been in the works for some time now, with Jose Mourinho giving the final approval having taken a look at the young defender in pre-season before the move was completed.

Valdepenas, who made his first-team debut for Los Blancos last December, flew to Italy earlier this week after having bid goodbye to his teammates and is now officially a player for Fiorentina.

€8 million deal

While the statement does not specify it, Fiorentina will pay €8 million for 50% of Valdepenas’ economic rights, while Real Madrid have secured several clauses that allow them to maintain significant control over the player’s future.

As part of the agreement, Real Madrid also hold a buy-back option valid for the next three seasons, much like they did with deals for the likes of Nico Paz and Jacobo Ramon.

The repurchase fee is expected to range between €10 million and €12 million, reports AS.

The young defender, who joined Real Madrid in 2018 as an 11-year-old, has signed a five-year contract with the Italian club.

The transfer is another example of Real Madrid’s successful academy model.

By selling only part of the player’s rights while keeping a buy-back clause, the club secures an immediate financial return without giving up the possibility of bringing Valdepenas back if he develops into a first-team player.
