Matheus Cunha has been left out of Ruben Amorim’s matchday squad for tonight’s clash with Everton.

Manchester United are now undergoing their final preparations at Old Trafford ahead of the 8pm kick-off, which will round off matchweek 12 in the Premier League.

A win could take the Red Devils level on points with fourth-placed Aston Villa and just two points adrift of second-placed Chelsea. However, Amorim will have to do so without one of his most impactful forwards: Cunha.

On Saturday evening, concerns grew over the Brazilian’s condition after it was confirmed that he had pulled out of Altrincham’s Christmas lights switch-on due to an injury sustained in training.

Now that his absence has been verified with the release of United’s team news, BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone has confirmed that it was a head injury that the player suffered over the weekend.

Thankfully for Cunha, he will have six days to try and get himself back to full fitness in time for Sunday’s encounter away to Crystal Palace.

Elsewhere in the XI, Joshua Zirkzee has been given the nod for the first time this campaign, so he’ll be chomping at the bit to get on the scoresheet and prove himself to the boss.

He found the back of the net twice the last time the Toffees came to M16, and he’s now been granted a perfect opportunity to do so again whilst Benjamin Sesko is sidelined.

Lisandro Martinez has made the matchday squad for the first time in nine months following his lengthy layoff with an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, while Kobbie Mainoo, who’s still awaiting his first league start, has returned to the bench, having missed the draw with Tottenham Hotspur prior to the break.

Highly-rated academy starlet Shea Lacey, 18, has also been included in Amorim’s substitutes.
