Construction at Elland Road has begun as Leeds United press ahead with a redevelopment that will turn the ground into a UEFA Category 4 venue.

Significant groundwork took place over the weekend and into this week. A team spokesperson stated that preliminary works are ongoing.

Major construction is scheduled to follow the current season, expanding the West and North Stands and making targeted changes to the South Stand.

Capacity will rise from 38,000 to 53,000. Once complete, Elland Road will be the seventh-largest football stadium in England, and the upgrade will place it among Europe’s elite venues.

Leeds City Council approved the plans in January, including partial demolition and redevelopment of the West Stand and outline permission to increase the North Stand’s capacity.

Concerns around travel, parking and disruption for nearby residents were raised during the process, but councillors were strongly in favour. Recent images chart the early progress at the ground.
