The future of Alphonso Davies at FC Bayern is becoming increasingly uncertain. While the Canadian continues to struggle with injury problems, Munich are apparently already looking closely at possible alternatives – and have set their sights on a Manchester City star

Davies was supposed to be a long-term fixture at left-back for the record champions, but after tearing his cruciate ligament in March 2025, the 25-year-old has yet to return to top form

He has also been plagued by recurring muscular problems and most recently suffered another muscle injury in his left hamstring in the Champions League second leg against Paris Saint-Germain and will be out for the rest of the season. Even his participation in the home World Cup with Canada no longer seems guaranteed

Bayern doubt Davies

As several media outlets have recently reported, Bayern officials are no longer ruling out the possibility of selling the Canadian in the summer – provided an attractive offer is received. Manchester United in particular are said to be keeping a close eye on the situation

Internally, doubts are apparently growing as to whether Davies will remain the ideal solution for the left side of defence in the long term, despite his enormous potential. In addition to his susceptibility to injury, the Canadian’s high salary is also likely to play a role

Interesting: According to the British portal TEAMtalk, Munich are already actively exploring the market for a possible replacement – and are said to have found one at Manchester City. Bayern have contacted Josko Gvardiol’s advisors to enquire about his current situation

The 24-year-old Croatian is now one of the most important players in Pep Guardiola’s team. Since his move from RB Leipzig to Manchester City in the summer of 2023, Gvardiol has finally established himself at world-class level

Gvardiol fits the Bayern profile perfectly

What makes the international particularly attractive is his enormous flexibility. Gvardiol can play both as a central defender and on the left side of defence – exactly the profile Bayern are apparently looking for. In addition, the Croatian brings international experience, playing strength and high tactical quality

However, a potential transfer is likely to be anything but easy. According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City have no interest in selling him. Instead, the Citizens are even planning an early contract extension with the defensive star. Gvardiol’s current contract runs until 2028 and his market value is currently estimated at around 70 million euros

It remains to be seen how the situation surrounding Davies will develop, but one thing is clear: Bayern are already intensively examining various scenarios for the summer.
