With the Valencian derby against Levante UD 48 hours away, Carlos Corberán brought Juvenil A midfielder Aarón Mayol into Friday’s session to cover a hole at right-back created by issues for Dimitri Foulquier and Thierry Rendall. According to Superdeporte, the most likely in-game fixes are Unai Núñez or Luis Rioja.
Mayol, a classic holding midfielder with power and tidy distribution, was assigned defensive work, reinforcing the flank and the right side of the back line. His inclusion underlines the need to plug immediate gaps.
It comes in a week that has seen Foulquier undergo knee surgery and Rubén Iranzo suffer a sprain in the same area. Thierry has returned with discomfort, remains a doubt, and on Friday again trained separately.
Mayol arrived last summer from Levante, signing for Valencia CF’s Juvenil A with hopes of establishing himself at top youth level. He had already joined several first-team sessions before January’s midfield addition, a sign of the staff’s trust.
His usual role as a pivot and his defensive versatility have led Corberán to bring him back with the seniors, this time to reinforce a specific position amid injuries and keep every role covered in training. He knows the flank from his formative years in the ‘garnota’ academy.
The final squad for the derby is still pending, particularly concerning Thierry. Miguel Monferrer is injured and Pedro Gomes, a recent signing, has returned to training with the B team.
