Corinthians announce futsal coach extends contract until December 2026

This Saturday (27th), Corinthians officially confirmed the continuation of coach Fernando Malafaia at the helm of the futsal team for the 2026 season. It will be the professional's third season in the role, and the one-year extension follows a successful performance in 2025, with two titles (Taça SP and Torneo Mucho Más) and three runner-up finishes (Super Copa Gramado, Campeonato Paulista, and Liga Nacional de Futsal).

Malafaia's renewal joins others confirmed by the club in recent hours, such as Lucas Oliveira, Kelvin, Koji, Igor Bredof, and Vandinho. However, the squad will undergo a significant overhaul in a context of cost reduction for the sport, as decided by the management. Besides Deives, who has retired, Ivan Monteros, Igor Carioca, Israel, Deives, Andrey, Marlon Luisinho, and Yann will not remain at the club.

Overall, in the two seasons he coached Corinthians, Malafaia has impressive numbers. So far, there have been 89 official matches leading the People's Team, with 52 wins, 15 draws, and 22 losses – a 64% point success rate. Additionally, the team scored 292 goals (an average of 3.28 per game) and conceded 163 (1.83 per match).

Even amidst restructuring, the Corinthians futsal calendar will be full in 2026, with the Super Copa Gramado, Campeonato Paulista, Liga Nacional de Futsal, and Copa da LNF. There is also the possibility of playing in the Copa Libertadores, should the bid to host the tournament be successful. Pre-season begins in January, with two friendlies in Japan against Nagoya Oceans and an F-League selection on the 10th and 12th.
