Corinthians appeal stops inquiry into judicial intervention

Corinthians has filed an appeal to try to halt the inquiry evaluating the possibility of judicial intervention in the club. The investigation is conducted by the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-SP), which, in turn, contested the arguments presented by the club's management and advocates for the continuation of the process. The information was initially disclosed by Estadão.

In the document sent to the authorities, the legal department of Corinthians requests the dismissal of the investigation. The main argument is that a potential intervention would be an extreme measure, considered disproportionate by the club, which claims there are less severe alternatives to address the administrative and financial problems, such as entering into a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC).

The management also argues that Corinthians' financial situation does not substantially differ from the reality faced by other indebted Brazilian clubs and that, in these cases, there were no similar initiatives by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Another point raised in the appeal is the set of measures recently adopted to tackle the institutional crisis. Among the actions mentioned are the rejection of the previous management's accounts, the creation of a specific committee for financial restructuring, and the opening of negotiations with Caixa Econômica Federal and the Union. The negotiations involve reviewing the financing conditions of the Neo Química Arena and tax debts.

The Public Prosecutor's Office, however, opposed the club's request. In its statement, the agency claims there are sufficient indications of mismanagement, administrative disorganization, economic fragility, and political instability, which would justify maintaining the inquiry. The MP-SP also emphasizes that its actions are supported by the General Sports Law and the Pelé Law, which establish obligations of transparency and responsibility in the management of sports entities.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the investigation aims to safeguard the interests of Corinthians itself. Should the process advance, the monitoring will remain under the responsibility of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

At this moment, the inquiry remains with a suspensive effect. The decision on whether or not to continue the investigation depends on the analysis of the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office, which has not yet issued a final decision on the case.
