Corinthians announced on Monday that former goalkeeper Júlio César is their new football manager, with executive Marcelo Paz making the appointment public.

The 41-year-old left Red Bull Bragantino on Monday after nine years with the Red Bull project, including two years at Red Bull Brasil, serving as player, technical coordinator and most recently football manager.

He will officially return to CT Joaquim Grava on Tuesday. The hire fills the vacancy created by Renan Bloise’s exit from the football manager and scout role.

Júlio César made his senior debut in May 2005 and stayed until 2014, making 140 appearances. His time spanned the club’s return from Serie B in 2009 to Libertadores and Club World Cup titles in 2012. He won nine trophies with Corinthians.

Since retiring, he has completed courses in football management with CBF Academy, sports management with FGV and football management with Conmebol. He expressed satisfaction at returning, feels prepared by his studies and experience, and intends to work tirelessly to help the club.
