Corinthians’ away debut in Brasileirão Feminino behind closed doors

This Friday (13th), Corinthians will visit Atlético-MG at 9 PM (Brasília time) at Arena MRV for the opening match of the Women's Brazilian Championship. It's worth noting that the Brabas are the most successful team in the tournament with seven titles (2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025). However, the match against the team from Minas Gerais will not have any spectators.

On its social media, Atlético-MG explained that the measure is due to the Carnival taking place in Belo Horizonte. To the portal Meu Timão, the team's press office justified that on the day of the match, there will be 16 carnival blocks, which results in a high demand for police, private security, traffic management, among others.

Corinthians, on the other hand, will play its first home match in the national competition of the modality on the next 20th, at 9:30 PM, for the second round of the tournament. The tendency is for the match to be held at the Neo Química Arena, as revealed by president Osmar Stabile in an interview with the press after the Women's Supercup final last Saturday (7th), against Palmeiras, at Arena Barueri. It is worth remembering that Fazendinha has been banned from hosting night games since mid-May last year due to lighting issues at the stadium.

The Brabas, it is worth noting, started 2026 with the runner-up position in the Champions Cup, after a 3-2 defeat against Arsenal in extra time at Emirates Stadium, and with the second place in the Brazilian Supercup, after being defeated by Palmeiras, with a score of 5-4 in the penalty shootout. This year, they will also compete in: Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil, and Conmebol Libertadores.

“The holder of the broadcasting rights for the Women's Brazilian Championship Série A1 chose to schedule the Atlético x Corinthians match for next Friday (13th) at 9 PM. Given the Carnival holiday, and since an official match involves public security operations, traffic, as well as all the staff at the stadium where it will be held, Galo opted to hold the match without the presence of the public. The match was scheduled for the same day when there will be competition with 16 carnival blocks in the city, events that require police, traffic, and private security personnel, among others.”
