Corinthians beat San José-PAR, one win from Final Four

On Saturday night (15), Corinthians returned to the court for the quarterfinal phase of the South American Basketball League (LSB). At the Polideportivo León Coundou in Paraguay, the Alvinegro faced Deportivo San José-PAR and, after a strong first half, withstood the opponent's pressure and secured an 85 x 80 victory.

With this result, Timão took second place in the group, just behind Regatas Corrientes-ARG, who have two wins in two games. To qualify for the Final Four of the continental tournament, Corinthians will need to defeat Defensor Sporting this Sunday (16), who are currently in third place with the same number of points as Alvinegro, but with a worse basket differential.

In the first quarter, San José opened the scoring, but Corinthians quickly turned it around with a three-pointer from Davaunta Thomas and a fast-break finish by Elinho. The game remained balanced, with Picton putting the Paraguayans ahead, but a technical timeout helped Timão regain control and close the quarter at 25 x 22. In the next period, the team rotated the lineup and, after some unstable minutes, picked up the pace again: Victão hit a three-pointer and Elinho found Lucas Cauê wide open to extend the lead. Thus, Timão went into halftime winning 45 x 35.

The third quarter started poorly for Corinthians, who allowed San José to rally. Austin Wrighten closed the gap, but after a timeout, Elinho and Elyjah Clark picked up the pace and the São Paulo team pulled ahead, closing the period at 66 x 58. In the final ten minutes, Timão continued to control the match and resisted the Paraguayan team's attempts to get back in the game, relying on more clutch shots from Clark and Thomas to secure the 85 x 80 victory.

Lucas Cauê was one of the standouts of the match, recording a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. Only Davaunta Thomas scored more, totaling 20 points on Saturday. Elinho, meanwhile, once again led the team in assists, with nine in total.
