Corinthians beat Santos on penalties, reach U15 Paulistão semis

On the afternoon of this Saturday, November 1st, Corinthians hosted Santos at the Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha, for the second leg of the São Paulo U-15 Championship quarterfinals and drew 1-1. After two draws in both games, the match went to penalties, and Timãozinho won 3-2.

Coach Eduardo Vergueiro fielded the following team to start the match: Matheus; Kaio Wisley, Caio Manuel (Marcelo), Arthur Couto, and Rafael Luiz; Lucas Lopes (Medina), Leo Saraiva, and Leo Rodrigues; Felipe Enzo (Rhyan Ladeira), Morelli (Luan Banhado), and Moscardo (Thiago Coelho).

The bench had the following options: Abnner, Splichal, Juan Carlos, Igor Macedo, Rhyan Ladeira, Luan Banhado, Thiago Coelho, Medina, and Marcelo. Only the first three were not called upon in the Alvinegro classic. The first minutes of the duel were not very exciting, as both teams were cautious, making the game a studied one.

Later, at seven minutes, Santos had the first opportunity of the game after a cross from the right that threatened the Corinthians defense. However, at 10 minutes, the Sons of Terrão opened the scoring with forward Miguel Moscardo. Left-back Rafael Luiz crossed, and Kaio Wisley, at the far post, set up the number 9 of Timãozinho to inaugurate the scoreboard.

From then on, the game became scrappy, especially in the midfield area, with not many clear goal chances. Soon after, Santos equalized at 25 minutes of the first half. In the second half, Corinthians controlled the game but couldn't break through the Santos defense, leading to a penalty shootout.

The only two chances for Corinthians came after a header from Miguel Moscardo at 16 minutes and with his teammate, Pedro Morelli, who missed the chance and was stopped by the Santos goalkeeper.

In the penalties, despite scoring two goals, Santos missed three shots over the goal. Corinthians, on the other hand, was at a disadvantage but recovered with shots from Rhyan Ladeira and Rafael Luiz. One of Timãozinho's main players, Léo Rodrigues, took the decisive shot and secured Timão's qualification.

In the first phase, Corinthians led Group 13 with 22 points – seven wins, one draw, and two losses, scoring 27 goals and conceding seven. Timãozinho shared the group with Juventus, Santo André, Terceiro Milênio, São Caetano, and Centro Olímpico. In the second phase, the Alvinegro led Group 25 with six wins (100% success rate) and 18 points – 22 goals scored and none conceded. The group included Ituano, Mathiqueira, and XV de Jaú.

In the third phase, the club from Parque São Jorge also topped Group 29 with 18 points (six wins in six games – 100% success rate) – 26 goals scored and three conceded. The group was shared with Timãozinho, Ferroviária, Marília, and União Suzano. In the round of 16, the Alvinegro dispatched Audax by winning both games 2-0.
