Corinthians beat Capivariano 3-0 on Thursday, continuing their upturn in the Campeonato Paulista. The win lifts them to fourth on 11 points after six rounds.
They had briefly slipped to seventh after a postponement at Neo Química Arena amid Sunday’s Supercopa triumph, but now sit two points behind leaders Novorizontino. According to Meu Timao, the result brought welcome breathing space in the race for the top eight.
The top eight advance to the knockout phase. Botafogo-SP are ninth on eight points, behind Corinthians and two others on goal difference.
The first phase has been cut to eight rounds with a single table. Home advantage will be set by teams’ records for one-off quarter-finals and semi-finals, and the final will be over two legs.
Attention turns to a derby with Palmeiras in Itaquera on Sunday at 20:30, in round seven. The final matchday pits Corinthians against São Bernardo.
