Corinthians double release clause for homegrown midfielder, extend contract

Throughout this Thursday, October 30, Corinthians finalized the contract renewal with midfielder Dieguinho, who was developed in the club's youth categories. Born in 2007 (18 years old), his contract was extended from December 2027 to December 2029. The information was initially released by ge.globo.

Additionally, in the contract extension, Corinthians doubled the release clause for international clubs from 50 million to 100 million euros (R$ 623 million at the current exchange rate). There was also an adjustment in the national release clause, linked to the monthly salary, with values not disclosed.

The athlete had renewed his contract with Corinthians in November 2024, before the São Paulo Cup 2025. At the time, the young player was a standout in the Under-17 and was already playing as a starter in the Under-20 category, then led by coach Orlando Ribeiro.

Facing financial difficulties, with FIFA sanctions, coach Dorival Júnior started giving more opportunities to young players from the youth categories, and Dieguinho was one of them, becoming part of the professional squad from mid-year.

So far, he has played seven matches as a professional for Corinthians, with one as a starter – one win, two draws, and four losses, without scoring goals or providing assists. His debut in the senior team took place on April 19 this year, in the victory over Sport by 2 x 1, at Neo Química Arena, during the fifth round of the Brasileirão. On that day, Orlando Ribeiro (interim) brought him on during injury time.

His only match as a starter for Corinthians was on August 3, when he played 45 minutes in a 1 x 1 draw against Fortaleza, in Itaquera, during the 18th round of the Brasileirão. His last appearance on the field wearing the Corinthians jersey was on October 15, in a 3 x 1 defeat against Santos, at Vila Belmiro, in a classic match during the 28th round of the national competition.

Counting the Under-17 and 20 categories of Corinthians, he scored 11 goals in 102 games, with 52 wins, 24 draws, and 26 losses. Recently, Corinthians also renewed contracts of other athletes developed in the youth system who are now in the professional team, such as right-back João Vitor Jacaré (18 years), midfielder André (19 years), and forward Gui Negão (18 years).
