Corinthians drop as gap to relegation zone narrows in Brasileirão

With the defeat against Santos FC, on the night of last Wednesday, October 15, at Vila Belmiro, by a score of 3 x 1, Corinthians lost a position and ends the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship in 13th place with 33 points (eight wins, nine draws, and 11 losses – 30 goals scored and 35 conceded).

The club from Parque São Jorge was overtaken by Grêmio, who defeated São Paulo on Thursday night (16), in Porto Alegre, reaching 36 points in 28 games – 11th place. Ceará, in turn, dropped to 12th position with 35 points in 27 matches.

Additionally, Corinthians saw the gap to the relegation zone decrease to five points, as Vitória – the first team within the Z4 – beat Bahia by a score of 2 x 1, at Barradão Stadium, reaching 28 points in 28 games – the same number of matches as the Alvinegro.

The other teams within the relegation zone are Fortaleza (24 points in 27 matches), Juventude (23 points in 28 matches), and Sport (17 points in 27 matches). Additionally, behind the club from Parque São Jorge in the standings are: Atlético-MG (33 points in 27 games), Internacional (32 points in 27 matches), and Santos (31 points in 27 games).

Now, Corinthians will return to the field next Saturday, October 18, at 6:30 PM (Brasília time), to face Atlético-MG, at Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the 29th round of the Brazilian Championship. The clash between the teams is direct at the bottom of the table.
