Corinthians edge Atlético-MG away in Copa do Brasil Feminina debut

On the night of this Friday (13th), Corinthians faced Atlético-MG at Arena MRV, in a match valid for the first round of the 2026 Women's Brazilian Championship and won by a score of 1-0. The Brabas' goal was scored by midfielder Letícia Monteiro, midway through the first half. The result represented the team's first three points in the tournament and, with that, they are already in the fight for the top positions.

The only absence for the match was the goalkeeper Lelê, who is recovering from a blow to the head suffered in the final of the Women's Supercup, last Saturday (7th), against Palmeiras, at Arena Barueri. Coach Lucas Piccinato fielded the following lineup to start the match: Nicole Ramos; Gi Fernandes (Letícia Teles), Erika, Thais Ferreira and Tamires; Dayana Rodríguez (Belén Aquino), Ana Vitória and Letícia Monteiro; Ivana Fuso (Jhonson), Rhaizza (Gisela Robledo) and Vic Albuquerque (Paola García).

The substitutes' bench included: Rillary, Letícia Teles, Tamires, Paola García, Duda Sampaio, Andressa Alves, Jaqueline, Jhonson, Belén Aquino and Gisela Robledo.

The opponents took the field with: Wéber; Bárbara Melo, Hingredy, Barraca, Diovanna, Laura Maria, Nunes, Kaiuska, Anny Marabá, Amália Alves and Pimenta.

Refereeing

The referee was Deborah Cecilia Cruz Correia (PE), assisted by Suellen das Graças Gonçalves Silva (MG) and Andressa Oliveira Pereira (MG). The fourth official was Francielly Fernanda Lima de Castro. It is worth noting that this phase of the competition does not use VAR.

Next Match

After facing Atlético-MG away at Arena MRV in the tournament opener, Corinthians will play Fluminense next Friday (20th), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Neo Química Arena. The match will be valid for the second round of the Women's Brazilian Championship.

First Half

The first minutes of the match between Atlético-MG and Corinthians were marked by a fierce battle for possession in the midfield. Just two minutes into the game, the first chance for the Alvinegro. Building the play from the defensive field, forward Ivana Fuso was played in on the right wing and set up Vic Albuquerque one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper, but the number 17 ended up shooting across goal, wide.

At four minutes, Corinthians managed a counterattack with Letícia Monteiro. Number 19 played Rhaizza on the left wing, who, when passing to left-back Juliete, sent the pass straight over the end line. The Brabas started the match pressing the opposition's ball exit in their defensive half, making it difficult for the opponents to find alternatives to break the Corinthians' marking.

At 10 minutes, the Minas team began to individually press the Brabas' ball exit. After Anne played Kaiuska, the Minas team finished with danger over Nicole's goal. Next, Ana Vitória was played to the end line on the left side and, when she tried to cross, was blocked by the defense. From the corner, Gi Fernandes hit it at Weber, who punched it away badly, and Erika, with a header, almost opened the scoring for Timão!

On a new corner, Gi Fernandes crossed to Vic Albuquerque, who headed awkwardly wide. With 17 minutes played, the match showed good technical level, with both teams proposing play and creating good offensive moves, but without much efficiency. In the next minute, Rhaizza received a pass in midfield and played Vic through, but the Atlético defense cleared the danger with goalkeeper Weber.

At 25 minutes into the first half, Atlético-MG continued to trouble the Brabas' ball exit, creating danger a few times down the flanks. Seconds later, the Minas team again stole the ball in the attacking half and Erika made a mistake in the exit. However, she herself blocked a shot from forward Pimenta. At 29, the Atlético team built a play from the back and the opposing number 9, Anne, tried to get past Gi Fernandes on the end line but was blocked by the Corinthians defense.

Four minutes later, Atlético-MG threatened again, despite an offside in the build-up, with a long ball behind Gi Fernandes towards Pimenta. At 34 minutes, the first goal for Corinthians! Erika played Ivana Fuso on the right wing, number 13 made an individual move, cut inside and passed to Letícia Monteiro, near the penalty spot, to smash it into the Atlético net. Score: Atlético-MG 0 x 1 Corinthians.

In the next play, Atlético-MG responded with Pimenta, who received a pass on the left wing, behind Gi Fernandes. Number 55 shot, with a deflection, over the goal. Then, after a tight cross from Atlético-MG, the ball hit the crossbar and, on the rebound inside the area, Nicole made a great save going the wrong way, and then the Brabas' defense cleared with Erika!

At 40 minutes, Corinthians, even without opposition pressure, made a mistake in the ball exit with defensive midfielder Dayana Rodríguez, who sent a pass straight out when trying to find Gi Fernandes. Two minutes later, the Brabas exchanged passes up to midfield and Dayana Rodríguez shot hard from distance, close to Weber's left corner!

When the clock hit 45 minutes, the referee added three more minutes and, after that, added another. At 49, end of the first half: Atlético-MG 0 x 1 Corinthians. Despite giving the Corinthians squad some trouble, the Minas team was not efficient when pressing the opponent's ball exit and saw the Parque São Jorge club be lethal and, even with a balanced game, open the scoring with midfielder Letícia Monteiro.

Second Half

To start the second half, coach Lucas Piccinato made no changes. The first minutes of the final stage saw Atlético-MG pressing the Brabas' ball exit, causing some difficulty for the Parque São Jorge club, which, in the opening moments, had more possession. At three minutes, defender Thais Ferreira lost the ball in the exit and Anne Marabá stole it. The forward broke away, beat number 5 in the race, but shot weakly – hampered by the defender – into Nicole's hands.

Five minutes later, Atlético-MG launched a counterattack with a long ball over the top. Dayana Rodríguez lost the ball duel with Maria, who played Anny Marabá, who got past two Corinthians players and, at the edge of the box, shot over Nicole's goal. With 13 minutes of the second half, the Parque São Jorge club stabilized in the match and began to attack more forcefully.

At 16 minutes, Anny Marabá crossed into the area and Thais Ferreira cleared for a corner. Right after, the first three changes for Corinthians: forwards Jhonson, Gisela Robledo and Belén Aquino replaced forwards Ivana Fuso and Rhaizza, as well as defensive midfielder Dayana Rodríguez, respectively.

At 20 minutes, forward Belén Aquino, in her first involvement in the match, cut onto her left foot and curled a shot to Weber's corner, who parried it away! Almost the Brabas' second! Two minutes later, Corinthians threatened again! Gisela Robledo received the ball on the end line and crossed for Belén Aquino to blast a shot off Atlético-MG's crossbar!

At 27 minutes, forward Jhonson, on a counterattack, was played through deep in the attacking half and played Belén Aquino, who ended up getting tangled up in the timing of the shot and opted to play the ball to number 40 of the Brabas, but the Atlético defense cleared. In the second half, unlike the first, Corinthians became dominant, especially after the changes in attack. Meanwhile, the Atlético players showed signs of fatigue due to the intense pressing they imposed in the first half.

At 32 minutes, the fourth change for the Brabas: right-back Gi Fernandes left the field for center-back Letícia Teles to come on. Right after, forward Jhonson, from midfield, saw goalkeeper Weber off her line and almost scored a wonder goal from distance! Four minutes later, Belén Aquino was played through deep on the end line and was brought down in the area, but nothing was given. There was some protest from the Brabas' players and coaching staff.

At 41 minutes, the last substitution for Corinthians: midfielder Vic Albuquerque left the field for defensive midfielder Paola García to come on and make her debut for the Brabas. In the final stretch of the match, from the 30th minute on, the Parque São Jorge club began to manage the result by circulating possession, while the opponent, in turn, showed increasing fatigue due to the intensity imposed in the first part of the match.

In the next play, Gisela Robledo was played in by Paola García on the right end line and crossed for Letícia Monteiro, free at the edge of the box, to shoot hard off Weber's crossbar and almost extend the lead! When the clock hit 45 minutes, eight more were added. At 46 minutes, the Minas team launched a counterattack down the left and the opposing player crossed, but it went straight into goalkeeper Nicole's hands.

At 48 minutes, after picking up a loose ball from a cross, Jhonson, inside the area, controlled it twice with her head and shot weakly into Weber's hands. In the final moments, Paola García crossed low into the area and the ball fell to Robledo, who shot over the bar. Three minutes later, end of the match! Brabas win! Atlético-MG 0 x 1 Corinthians
