Corinthians edge Cruzeiro, but Copa do Brasil clash looks tight

Corinthians and Cruzeiro begin another decisive match this Wednesday night (10), starting at 9:30 PM (Brasília time), at Mineirão. In the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil, both teams aim to advance to the games that decide the title, and they have a balanced history in the competition.

The teams have faced each other in six editions of the Copa do Brasil, totaling 12 matches. In this span, there have been five victories for each side and only two draws. In these encounters, Corinthians advanced only twice, while the Minas Gerais club prevailed six times – one of which was a title in 2018.

However, when it comes to the overall record, the People’s Team has the upper hand. As two clubs over a century old, the matchup has occurred 96 times, with Corinthians celebrating more often than Cruzeiro. In total, there are 40 victories for the black-and-whites, 24 draws, and 32 positive results for the Cruzeiro team, with 122 goals for Timão and 111 for the Minas Gerais team.

This season, the encounters have not been encouraging for the club from Parque São Jorge. In the first round of the Brasileirão, a 0-0 draw at Neo Química Arena, but Corinthians had the upper hand in created chances. However, in the last rounds, a 3-0 win for Cabuloso at Mineirão, with a below-par performance from the team led by Dorival Júnior.

After the match at Mineirão, the semifinal will be decided at Neo Química Arena next Sunday, with expectations of a full stadium to support Timão, starting at 6 PM (Brasília time).
