Corinthians end deals with outlets linked to PCC probe

Corinthians has begun the process of terminating licensing agreements with three gas stations located in the Eastern Zone of São Paulo. This is because the owners of these establishments are under investigation in Operation Hidden Carbon, launched in August last year by Gaeco (Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime) of the São Paulo State Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-SP).

The information was first published by the portal Meu Timão last Thursday (8). According to g1, about 251 gas stations linked to 16 individuals under investigation in four states across the country have become targets of the investigative process—one of them being the “Postos Corinthians” network.

The establishments in question are “white flag” stations and, consequently, have no ties to major suppliers and are listed in records of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP). The addresses targeted—“Postos Corinthians” under investigation—are: Auto Posto Mega Líder Ltda (Av. Líder, 2000, Cidade Líder), Auto Posto Mega Líder 2 Sociedade Unipessoal Ltda (Av. São Miguel, 6337, Vila Norma), and Auto Posto Rivelino Ltda (Av. Padre Estanislau de Campos, 151, Conjunto Habitacional Padre Manoel da Nóbrega).

Throughout last Wednesday, the Instagram profile Cidade Notícias – click here to check it out, posted the removal of the Corinthians visual identity from one of the stations involved in the Hidden Carbon investigation. The trend, according to Meu Timão, is that other establishments will undergo the same process.

Additionally, according to the report, by cross-referencing Federal Revenue data, Auto Posto Rivelino is listed as linked to Pedro Fortunato Gouveia Neto. In the ANP records, however, the owner/partner is Himmad Abdallah Murad. Both are being investigated for possible ties to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), within a system in which Mohamad Hussein Mourad is a key figure.

The São Paulo courts understand that the PCC maintains a structure distributed across several states in the country, being linked to crimes such as money laundering, criminal organization, fraud, and tax evasion, with operations exceeding R$ 8.4 billion. Pedro Fortunato Gouveia Neto, recently the target of search and seizure, was a representative of GGX Global, a company cited as part of Mohamad Mourad's structure. On the other hand, investigations indicate that Himad has a stake in about 103 stations linked to the same network.

The other two establishments in the “Postos Corinthians” network are linked to Luiz Ernesto Franco Monegatto, who is also the target of search and seizure, both vehicle and personal. According to g1, Luiz is a partner in fuel sector brands and real estate businesses used in money laundering schemes in which Mohamad Murad is a central figure.

The inauguration of the “Postos Corinthians” took place during the administration of former president Duílio Monteiro Alves (2021-2023), who has issued an official statement, as has the club from Parque São Jorge – see both statements below.

“This is a licensing contract that provided for the creation of the Corinthians gas station network, which already existed at the club before I took office as president. The contractual amendments signed during my administration authorized the operation of the first units and went through the club's competent bodies, having been signed with companies authorized by a federal regulatory agency. I am unaware of any irregularity or complaint made about this contract until the last day of my administration. I emphasize that our Legal Department even included a liability clause for the operation, which ensures the club will be compensated for any possible damage caused to the institution and its image.”

Corinthians' Position:

“Sport Club Corinthians Paulista informs that it is not the managing administrator responsible for the gas stations mentioned in the report. In these cases, the Club clarifies that it is a licensing contract for its brand. Corinthians also informs that it is closely monitoring the progress of the investigations to — if necessary — take appropriate legal measures regarding the licensing contracts with the gas stations mentioned in the report.”
