Corinthians lost 1-0 to Palmeiras at Neo Química Arena on Sunday night, closing the Paulistão first phase without a derby win.

The sequence began in round three with a 1-1 draw at home to São Paulo, Breno Bidon on the scoresheet. It continued the following round with a 1-1 at Vila Belmiro against Santos, Yuri Alberto struck first before Gabriel Barbosa equalised at the death. Meu Timao notes this equated to 22.2 percent of available points from derbies in the phase.

Back in Itaquera against their arch rivals, Corinthians chased a first clássico victory. Memphis Depay missed a penalty and Flaco López hit the decisive goal.

In last year’s Paulista-winning campaign, the derby return was 33.33 percent, with defeat to São Paulo, a draw with Palmeiras and victory over Santos.

Before turning focus back to the Paulistão, Corinthians now switch attention to the Campeonato Brasileiro. They face Red Bull Bragantino at Neo Química Arena on Thursday 12 February, kick-off 20:00.
