Corinthians have three players called up to Brazil Under-16 squad

Corinthians had three representatives called up for the Brazilian Under-16 National Team this Tuesday (17). The goalkeeper Matheus Rodrigues “Alemão” and midfielders Lucas Lopes and Léo Rodrigues were called.

In total, coach Guilherme Dalla Déa selected 23 athletes playing in national football, distributed among two goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders, and six forwards. The group will compete in the traditional Montaigu International Tournament, held in France.

The three Timão players had been standouts in the Under-15 team and are already part of the club's Under-17 squad. Matheus Alemão, only 15 years old, born in 2010, participated in 25 matches in the Paulista Championship of the category. Léo Rodrigues, also 15, scored six times in 15 games. Meanwhile, Lucas Lopes, 16, played a more defensive role in midfield, played the same number of matches as Léo in the state championship, and was even the captain of the Brazilian National Team in the South American Championship.

Created in 1976, the Montaigu Tournament is considered one of the most traditional and important in world youth football. The last time Brazil participated was in 2022, when they won the title with a team that included Pedrinho, currently at Zenit, and Luiz Gustavo “Bahia”, who remains at Corinthians.

In the group stage, Brazil is in Group A, alongside Ivory Coast, China, and France. The debut will be on the 31st, against the Africans, in Les Sables d’Olonne, at 9:30 AM. Next, the team faces China on April 2nd, also at 9:30 AM, and concludes its participation in the first phase against France, on the 4th, at 9:00 AM, in Montaigu. All times are in Brasília time zone.

Group B consists of Japan, Peru, Mexico, and Portugal. The final of the competition is scheduled for the 6th, at 8:45 AM, in Montaigu, bringing together the leaders of each group. On the same day, the other matches between the teams will also be held according to their placements in the initial phase.
