Corinthians keeper fit and praises rivals: “They’re ready”

On the afternoon of this Sunday, the 2nd, Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship. In a match held at Neo Química Arena, valid for the 31st round of the national competition, Timão hosted Grêmio, aiming to maintain their recent good form. And they succeeded, winning in Itaquera 2-0, in front of 42,000 fans – the goals were scored by Gustavo Henrique and Memphis.

After the victory, goalkeeper Hugo Souza addressed the press in the mixed zone, where he clarified that his shoulder injury is healed. “I have to thank God and the Medical Department, because it was a very complicated injury. Maybe it would have taken me a little longer to return, but we worked hard and today I am able to come back well, without pain, I was able to help the team, so I am very happy about that. So I have to congratulate the entire Medical Department of the club”, he said.

He continued, detailing the play where he ended up feeling pain in the area: “And there in the game it happens, well, I said, I’m from Rio, I know it as tostão, but for you it’s paulistinha, so that’s what happened in the game. So those who know what a paulistinha is know that it hurts, so the pain there was quite significant. But during halftime, we managed to give it some attention so I could return for the second half well.”

The goalkeeper emphasized that he does not like to be absent from his team, further explaining why he didn’t return already against Santos: “I couldn’t (play) because there wasn’t enough time due to logistical reasons, but I always want to help, I want to be on the field to help the team. Whenever I go to the National Team, if there’s time to return, I want to be on the field, so when the logistics fit, I will always be on the field to help the team.”

Finally, Hugo Souza once again praised his young competitors for the position: “I have already talked about the quality we have in goal. Felipe Longo was fully prepared for the responsibility of taking over (the goal). He entered a difficult game, where the team didn’t perform well, ended up conceding goals that he couldn’t do anything about. Then some people want to criticize him, (but) then he delivered results in the game against Vitória and everyone saw what he is capable of doing. So, whether it’s him, Kauê, or Donelli, they are prepared to handle the task.”
