Corinthians let it slip, São José snatch win in Paulista Women's Basketball

On Saturday night, the 4th, Corinthians returned to the courts for the Women's Basketball State Championship. Playing at the Teatrão Complex in São José dos Campos, the Furious Ones faced the home team and, after a good start, saw the match go into overtime, where they were defeated 66 x 65.

With the result, the Alvinegro ended the first phase of the state tournament in second place in the overall standings, with six wins and two losses in eight games, behind only SESI Araraquara, which had one more victory. Now, the team will compete in the realignment phase, where they will play against SESI Araraquara again, as well as Unimed Campinas and Santo André.

For the match, coach Bruno Guidorizzi lined up Corinthians with a quintet formed by Ana Beatriz, Jaqueline de Paula, Yasmim, Licinara, and Alana. On the bench, the team had Glenda, Tayna, Jamile, Júlia Mansilha, and Tássia available.

Corinthians started the match at a better pace, establishing dominance in the first quarter. After São José opened the scoring, the Furious Ones immediately responded with three-pointers from Yasmim and Jaqueline, opening a ten-point lead. With an efficient defense that controlled the pace of the game, Corinthians ended the first period winning 24 to 17.

In the second quarter, São José found their offensive rhythm and reduced the difference to just four points, but Corinthians, still struggling, managed to maintain the lead, going into halftime winning 32 to 28.

The third quarter was marked by greater balance. São José managed to tie the game at 40 to 40 with a series of perimeter shots. The teams alternated the lead several times, with Mayara turning for São José and Yasmim returning the advantage to Corinthians. The period ended with the Furious Ones maintaining a minimal advantage of 47 to 46.

In the fourth period, finally, Gi Souza tied the game with two consecutive three-pointers, starting a series of turnarounds. São José took the lead with Tayná Paixão, Jaqueline returned the lead to Corinthians, but São José tied again. With 15 seconds left, São José did not convert the last possession, and the match went into overtime.

São José took the lead with baskets from Gi Souza and Rhay, opening a five-point lead. Corinthians reacted with Licinara, who turned the game to 62 to 61 by converting two consecutive three-pointers. Mayara put São José back in front, Ana Beatriz tied for Corinthians, but Mayara scored again in the final seconds. Corinthians had the last possession after time was called by Guidorizzi, but they failed to convert.
