According to Meu Timao, Corinthians used social media on Tuesday to mark the Maracanã’s 76th anniversary, recalling the 1976 Invasão Corinthiana, the 2000 FIFA Club World Cup win and the 2025 Copa do Brasil title.

Opened on 16 June 1950, Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho hosted a first ever match between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro state selections, won 3-1 by São Paulo. Corinthians’ Homero, Carbone and Luizinho, the Pequeno Polegar, featured.

In 1976, around 70,000 Corinthians fans travelled to the Brasileirão semi-final with Fluminense at the Maracanã. After a 1-1 draw, Timão advanced 4-1 on penalties. The 50-year milestone is marked in the 2026/27 kit with “INVASÃO 1976” detailing and the period crest.

In 2000, the stadium staged Corinthians’ first FIFA Club World Cup triumph, a 0-0 draw against Vasco da Gama settled 4-3 on penalties.

On 21 December 2025, Corinthians beat Vasco 2-1 in the Copa do Brasil final, with goals from Yuri Alberto and Memphis Depay, sealing the club’s fourth crown.

Overall record at the Maracanã is 162 games, 44 wins, 37 draws and 81 defeats, a 34.77% return. Corinthians have scored 177 and conceded 267, averages of 1.09 and 1.65. Baltazar and Rivellino are joint top scorers there for the club with seven each.

In 2026 they have played there once, losing 3-1 at Fluminense on 1 April. The next scheduled visit is the 27th round at Flamengo on 13 September. Further ties could come in the Copa do Brasil or, if both advance, a Libertadores semi-final with Flamengo.
