Corinthians midfielder reflects on win in Brazilian Women's League opener

On the evening of this Friday (13th), Corinthians faced Atlético-MG at Arena MRV for the first round of the Brazilian Women's Championship and ended up winning by a score of 1-0. The goal for the Brabas was scored by midfielder Letícia Monteiro halfway through the first half. The victory already put the Corinthians team in the fight for the top positions in the tournament.

After the final whistle, midfielder Ana Vitória, who played the full 90 minutes, gave an interview to SporTV and analyzed the positive result achieved by the club from Parque São Jorge, away from home. Wearing jersey number 88, she admits the team's difficulties in the first half and a greater control of the game in the second half. Additionally, she mentions the 'different' field – synthetic, which, according to her, interferes with some actions in the game.

“I think what we take from here today is a very difficult game, as you also said, in the first half we had a lot of difficulties. In my opinion, it was all about adapting to the field, it's a different pitch, I'm not complaining, on the contrary, I think it's really nice the way we were received here, very cool, very beautiful, I hadn't seen this Arena yet.

“But, in fact, the pitch is very different, in all aspects, in the way the ball moves, its timing, accelerations, decelerations, everything was done, everything was done, it's different for those who practice high performance. And I think that was the key, the first half, still finding ourselves, and the second half, where we managed to impose ourselves more, that was the key (to victory),” she said.

Ana Vitória returned to Corinthians at the beginning of 2026 after a few seasons playing in European football, where she played for Benfica in Portugal, PSG in France, and Atlético de Madrid in Spain. Adding up both stints with the Brabas (2017-2018 and 2026), so far, she has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 60 games (36 as a starter), with 44 wins, 10 draws, and six losses – a 78.8% success rate.

There were also two titles won: Conmebol Libertadores (2017) and Brasileirão (2018). After defeating Atlético-MG at Arena MRV in the Brasileirão debut, Corinthians will return to the field next Friday (20th), at 9:30 PM (Brasília time), at Neo Química Arena, to face Fluminense in the second round of the Brazilian Women's Championship.
