Corinthians are monitoring Atlético-MG forward Rony, though no negotiations are under way. The 30-year-old has drawn interest from other Brazilian clubs such as Santos, and he appeals to coach Dorival Júnior.

According to Globo.com, finances are the main sticking point. Corinthians are prioritising loans, while Atlético-MG would only entertain a sale, with an asking price of around R$ 25 million.

Rony’s salary is also considered high for the structure Corinthians aim to implement as they try to reduce their wage bill.

One potential route would be to offset part of the fee against Atlético-MG’s debt to Corinthians from the Fausto Vera transfer. However, that figure is lower than Rony’s valuation.

Last year, Corinthians took Atlético-MG to the CNRD, the CBF’s dispute chamber, over the outstanding amount on the R$ 22 million purchase of Fausto Vera.

Rony is expected to be included in the squad for the derby against Cruzeiro on Sunday at 18:00, Brasília time, at Arena MRV.
