Corinthians have opened talks to appoint Fernando Diniz and want a deal this week. According to Meu Timao, the club accept some fans may object but see no consensus option in the market. They intend the new coach to be on the touchline for Thursday’s Libertadores opener at Platense in Buenos Aires.
Negotiations are under way and the parties are set to meet on Monday. Diniz has been out of work since February after leaving Vasco da Gama, where he oversaw 56 games, winning 17, drawing 16 and losing 23, and finished Copa do Brasil runners-up to Corinthians.
Sylvinho is plan B, the former Corinthians manager who most recently led Albania, and he is also due to meet officials on Monday. In his 2021-2022 spell he managed 43 matches, delivering 16 wins, 14 draws and 13 defeats, a 48% record.
Tite, a 2012 Libertadores and Club World Cup winner with Corinthians, was considered but has told associates he could pause his career again. Emiliano Díaz is out. Juan Pablo Vojvoda is not a unanimous pick, and internally his style, with him currently unattached after Santos, is seen as a poor fit.
Under-20 coach William Batista takes interim charge, leading training on Monday afternoon at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava and handling immediate preparation for the continental fixture.
Corinthians are on their worst winless run since 2007, increasing pressure on the appointment and on their bid to win the competition for a second time.
