Corinthians playmaker recalled to Brazil women’s basketball squad

The coach of the Brazilian Women's Basketball Team, Pokey Chatman, announced this Wednesday, the 8th, the list of 18 players called up for the preparation period of the Brazilian women's basketball team aiming for the Pre-World Cup. Among the selected is a player from Corinthians: the point guard Alana Gonçalo, who will have the company of coach Bruno Guidorizzi on the technical staff, representing Timão.

The national team will gather in São Paulo between November 11 and 18, at the Olympic Training Center in Moema, for the first stage of activities, taking advantage of the FIBA window of the month. In this call-up, athletes playing in the NCAA, the United States college league, will not be used.

On Tuesday, the 7th, Brazil learned its opponents in the Pre-World Cup, scheduled for March 2026: Mali, South Sudan, Belgium, Czech Republic, and China. The competition will be hosted in Wuhan, China. The Women's Basketball World Cup is scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, from September 4 to 13, 2026.

Alana and Guidorizzi were already part of the team in the runner-up finish at the AmeriCup, held in Chile, when Brazil reached the final undefeated, only being surpassed by the United States. For Corinthians, the duo helped the Furiosas finish the Women's Basketball League (LBF) in fifth place this season, falling in the quarterfinals against Unimed Campinas by 2-0 in the series.

The point guard and the coach will still defend Corinthians once more before joining Brazil, in the match that takes place this Friday, the 10th, for the first round of the realignment phase of the Paulista Championship. Timão hosts Unimed Campinas at 7 PM (Brasília time), at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium.
