Corinthians consider Memphis Depay unlikely to face Internacional, with the forward due to arrive in Brazil early Tuesday to renew his contract.
According to Meu Timao, he must undergo a conditioning programme before returning to Fernando Diniz’s squad, unless he surprisingly reports in ideal shape.
The club also awaits a definitive CBF ruling on his eligibility for the Copa do Brasil. Corinthians believe he was registered within the deadline, but a fresh registration is required after his renewal.
Competition rules state that in two-legged ties a player must be registered before the first leg, otherwise he can play only in the next round if the team advance. His name must also appear on the CBF’s BID to be eligible.
On landing, Depay will take medical tests to assess his condition before training resumes. The initial plan is to keep him out of group work.
Coaches view him as starting a pre-season after a break, so he will follow an individual programme with fitness staff before rejoining full training.
The plan could change if his numbers exceed expectations, though the club intends to proceed cautiously.
Depay has not played since 25 June, when the Netherlands beat Tunisia 3-1 in the World Cup group stage. After a round-of-32 exit to Morocco, he rested during Corinthians’ break.
In 2026 he has 14 appearances for Corinthians, one goal and one assist. A right thigh problem kept him out from March to May, about two months.
