Corinthians lost 2-0 to Platense at Neo Química Arena in the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday, with Zapiola scoring both goals for the Argentine side.

According to Meu Timao, it was the final match of the group stage and the club’s first defeat in the competition. The result halted a seven-game unbeaten run at the stadium and ended Fernando Diniz’s personal streak.

The night marked the return of Rodrigo Garro, Yuri Alberto and Memphis to the starting XI after three months. Yuri Alberto endured another difficult outing and was booed as he left the pitch.

Diniz showed clear dissatisfaction with the display and accepted responsibility for the below-par performance. Centre-back Gustavo Henrique acknowledged the level was not good enough, and goalkeeper Hugo Souza rued missing the chance to improve the team’s overall Libertadores standing.

Memphis was called up by Ronald Koeman to represent the Netherlands at the World Cup, which begins in June. After the game, he reiterated his wish to stay at Corinthians while his contract situation remains open.

Despite the defeat, Corinthians had already qualified for the knockouts and finished top of the group, earning a little over R$ 16 million in prize money. Midfielder Gabriel Moscardo, now at PSG and a Timão academy graduate, watched from a box as supporters on social media celebrated Memphis’s return and issued low ratings to all starters.
