Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz says the club will ask the CBF to explain why Palmeiras forward Flaco López was not sent off in Sunday’s 0-0 derby.
According to Meu Timao, Paz said the club will file a strong request at the CBF’s Monday refereeing meeting to understand why López was not dismissed after what he described as a clear elbow on Breno Bidon.
The incident came in the second half inside the Palmeiras area. VAR official Daniel Nobre Bins did not invite on-field referee Flávio Rodrigues de Sousa to review the clash.
Paz noted the VAR had been very active in the two Corinthians dismissals and said the club felt harmed, adding they would seek answers politely but firmly about why the episode was not checked in the same way.
André Luiz was sent off for an obscene gesture as interpreted by the referee, while right-back Matheuzinho saw red for punching López in the face. Both will miss Saturday’s trip to Vitória at Barradão.
While pressing for clarification, Corinthians continue preparations for their next Copa Libertadores fixture against Independiente Santa Fe of Colombia at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena.
