Corinthians are planning an Arena tribute to club idol Basílio on his 77th birthday before facing Capivariano. ge.globo reports that the club wants the gesture to take place before kick-off.

Basílio wrote his name into history in 1977, scoring the decisive goal against Ponte Preta at Morumbi in the Paulistão final, ending a 23-year wait for silverware. The 1977 link underpins the timing.

The outline foresees Basílio stepping onto the pitch after the warm-up to receive applause from supporters, alongside further actions in the stands. Those elements have not yet been confirmed.

The celebration is set to mirror recent tributes for Renato Augusto in September before Flamengo, for Gil in November on the eve of the Majestoso, and for Ángel Romero in the season opener against Ponte Preta. In those cases, the honourees entered with family, were applauded by the Fiel, received a plaque from president Osmar Stabile and were given the club’s third shirt.

Born in São Paulo, Basílio represented Corinthians from 1975 to 1981. He won the 1977 and 1979 Paulistão titles, making 253 appearances and scoring 29 goals.
