Corinthians U20 coach previews team's Campeonato Brasileiro debut

After a period of training following the disappointing campaign in the Copinha, Corinthians' Under-20 team is ready to return to the field. This Friday (20th), Timãozinho completed their preparation for the debut in the Brazilian Championship of the category. On the afternoon of this Saturday (21st), the Alvinegro will host América-MG at 3 PM (Brasília time) at Fazendinha.

In the last training session before the match, held precisely at Parque São Jorge, the Sons of Terrão worked on set pieces, as well as defensive and offensive aspects. Speaking to the official Corinthians website shortly after the end of the activity, coach William Batista gave an overview of the team's preparation and talked about the reunion with América-MG, a team where he had stints in both the youth and professional categories.

“We had a preparation of about four weeks after the Copinha, and we worked a lot on the game aspects that needed improvement. América Mineiro is a club I know well, but what will define the match is how the teams present on the field what they have trained,” he said.

He later commented on the arrival of four reinforcements for the category. The Alvinegro secured the arrival of defenders José Antônio, on loan from Santa Cruz, Leyv Dias and Yago Melo, coming from Flamengo, as well as midfielder Christian Oliveira, who was also with the Rio team. The last three terminated their contracts with the Rubro Negro.

“We have the boys who came down from the professional team, in addition to the reinforcements that arrived, and with the group that was already here, we will have a well-rounded team to have a great season and represent the club and the fans well, which is fundamental, and the presence of the faithful is important for us to be stronger on the field,” he concluded.

In the 2026 Under-20 Brazilian Championship, Corinthians seeks to have a campaign opposite to the last two years, in which they did not advance to the knockout stage. Timãozinho was among the last placed and even fought against relegation last season, scoring only 20 points in 19 games. The Parque São Jorge club has not advanced to the elimination phase since 2023, when they stopped in the semifinals.
