Corinthians unbeaten with GYM trio starting at Neo Química Arena

Last Saturday night, Corinthians defeated Atlético-MG 1-0 at the Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the 29th round of the Brazilian Championship. With the victory, the GYM trio, composed of Rodrigo Garro, Yuri Alberto, and Memphis Depay, extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games when playing together in Itaquera.

Whenever the three started as starters at home, Timão maintained a strong performance: ten wins and three draws, with no losses, representing an 84.61% success rate of the points contested.

The record is even more impressive given the difficulties the club faced in bringing the trio together during the year. In 2025, Garro, Yuri, and Memphis started together in only ten matches out of Corinthians' 61 commitments in the season.

Before the victory over Atlético-MG, the last time the trio started together at Neo Química Arena was on July 30, when Corinthians beat Palmeiras 1-0 in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16. In the following match against Fortaleza in the Brasileirão — a 1-1 draw — the three were rested and started on the bench, coming on only in the second half due to preparation for the second leg of the knockout stage.

Between September and October, Dorival Júnior faced a period of over a month without being able to field the three together. The last occasion was on September 10, in a 2-0 victory over Athletico-PR in the return leg of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals. In that game, Memphis and Garro were starters, while Yuri started on the bench, still recovering from an inguinal hernia surgery. Memphis, however, had to be substituted in the first half after experiencing muscle pain.

Injuries, in fact, marked the year for the trio. Garro dealt with patellar tendinopathy in his right knee and, more recently, suffered a grade 2 calf injury. Yuri Alberto went through an L1 vertebra fracture in May and had inguinal hernia surgery in August. Memphis had a grade 2 hamstring injury in the same month and, in September, showed edema in the area during the match against Athletico.

Corinthians returns to the field on Saturday, the 25th, to face Vitória at Barradão, for the 30th round of the Brasileirão. The reunion with the fans at Neo Química Arena is scheduled for November 2, at 4 PM, against Grêmio.
