Corinthians women's captain eyes Paulista title, Brazil call-up

Corinthians took the court on Friday night, the 10th, to face Unimed Campinas, in a match valid for the first round of the realignment phase of the São Paulo Women’s Basketball Championship and won by a score of 79–61. The duel took place at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium, Parque São Jorge.

After the game, point guard Alana Gonçalo spoke with the portal Meninas do Timão, analyzing the Furiosas’ victory: “I think it was a good game, both defensively and offensively. Despite making some mistakes, mainly communication there on the court, some passes we could have made, some turnovers. I think we managed to sort it out well and didn’t let a rough patch take over the game. So I think we controlled that well and had a good game.”

The Alvinegra captain also looked ahead in the competition, setting the state title as the goal. “I think our goal is very clear; everyone knows we want to be champions. So each game is one more step for us to climb and reach our main objective. So today we beat Campinas, now it’s time to clear our heads, relax a bit, and already think about our next opponent, which is just as important as Campinas today,” she said.

Finally, she also reacted to her call-up to the Brazilian National Team, aiming for the Pre-Worlds. “For me it’s always an honor, it’s a childhood dream that I’m fulfilling. Thank God I’ve been able to live the dream since I was little. I’m very happy to be called up again; I hope I can honor the national team jersey and represent Coringão well there,” she concluded.
