AC Milan make the trip to face Bologna tonight hoping for three points to maintain belief in a top four spot, and it will be a ‘Battle of Saints’.
This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (seen below) has a section headlined: ‘Two saints, one paradise’. The reference is to Santiago Castro and Santiago Gimenez, the rossoblù and rossonero centre-forwards.
Both arrived in Italy in the winter transfer window but Castro did so last year at the age of 19, while Gimenez joined from Feyenoord just over one week ago at the age of 23 from Feyenoord.
United by a past overseas – one at Velez Sarsfield in Argentina and the other at Cruz Azul in Mexico – the two aim to drag their respective teams into the fight for qualification for the next Champions League.
It will be ‘El Toto’ against ‘El Bebote’, and there is room for only one Saint in paradise. Castro has six goals and four assists in 25 Serie A matches thus far, while Gimenez netted in two of his three league starts.
The only doubts about the line-up that Sergio Conceicao has are related to the so-called ‘Fantastic Four’, who for the first time in a few games will not be fielded all together.
Rafael Leao and Joao Felix are the two in doubt, but Gimenez is not impacted by any kind of dilemma. He and Christian Pulisic are guaranteed of a starting spot, because the Mexican is ‘already irreplaceable’.
