A little over a year after Jürgen Klopp took on the role as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer, Salzburger Nachrichten suggests that the 58-year-old could be on his way out.
The Austrian outlet, which first reported on Klopp’s arrival last year, states that the sporting progress since the former Liverpool manager assumed the role has been unsatisfactory and that neither Klopp nor Red Bull are fully satisfied. Accordingly, the report suggests that a separation is possible this summer.
The report also highlights Austrian coach Oliver Glasner, who will leave his position as Crystal Palace manager at the end of the season, as the favourite to replace Klopp should the 58-year-old depart the position.
According to Bild, Red Bull insists a parting of ways is not imminent. However, the tabloid adds that if both sides reconsider and Klopp wants to return to coaching, a split cannot be ruled out.
Klopp has been linked with the Real Madrid job and could also be considered as a replacement for Julian Nagelsmann as Germany coach, depending on the outcome of this summer’s World Cup.
Last month, Bulinews.com traveled to Leipzig to interview Klopp. While the 58-year-old made it clear that he had no immediate plans to return to coaching, he left the door open for the future.
"I don’t know what I will think in five years when I’m 63. I still won’t be too old for the job. I don’t know what I will think in two or three years either. I don’t expect to change my mind, but I don’t know. Do I want to coach again? At the moment, I would say no, but I can’t say ‘never, never, never’. At the moment, I’m very happy with what I’m doing. It’s a bit like all the things I did in the past led me to be really suited for this job," Klopp said, adding:
"I don’t need to be in the centre. I don’t need to be on the pitch if we win something, being the one in the middle. It was nice, but I’ve had enough of it. I’m not here to go again, go again, go again. If I feel it, I go again."
