Often confined to the bench yet decisive, Gonçalo Ramos again rescued Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophée des Champions. As reported by Le Progres, the Portuguese forward embodies the club’s supersub paradox this season.
In Kuwait on Thursday, PSG drew 2-2 with OM then won 4-1 on penalties, after Ramos came on in the 89th minute, volleyed in at 90+5 following a move started by Willian Pacho, and converted the first shootout kick.
Luis Enrique chose to highlight his striker rather than man of the match goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, calling him incredible and always ready, even when thrown on for only a few minutes.
On Sunday he added that at a club like PSG minutes are uncertain, so the duty is to be prepared to help and to represent the team, describing Ramos as a model professional.
PSG’s leading scorer, Ramos has 10 goals this season in all competitions, and 12 of his 43 career strikes have come after regulation, including six of his last 10 for PSG after the 90th minute.
He has started only nine times and, despite being a pure number nine in a fluid system, remains indispensable to PSG.
He could feature again when PSG host Paris FC in the Coupe de France on Monday at 21:10 in the round of 32.
