Court upholds freeze on Corinthians’ Copa do Brasil prize money

Corinthians had their appeal denied by the São Paulo Court of Justice to unlock the funds earned in the 2025 Copa do Brasil. The club has approximately R$ 20 million at this stage of the competition, which is in the semifinal phase.

The club's management had already tried to recover the amount for their finances in August this year, but the 1st Civil Court of Tatuapé accepted the lawsuit initiated by Link Assessoria Esportiva, owned by businessman André Cury. Due to the amount owed, he took legal action to receive the sum.

In the appeal presented, Corinthians argued that the amount from the advances in the Copa do Brasil should be included in the Centralized Execution Regime (RCE), as they are considered new assets for the club. Another argument was the potential negative impact on cash flow.

Among the arguments presented for the denial of the appeal, the court reaffirmed that the release of the funds should occur through a decision by the RCE court, which belongs to the 2nd Bankruptcy and Judicial Recovery Court. The court also sent a notice to the federations for the amounts to be transferred to the new destination of the regime.

Even with the funds blocked, Corinthians is trying to reach the Copa do Brasil final to further improve the prize money. The semifinal matches are against Cruzeiro, in December, on the 10th and 14th. A possible final will be against Vasco or Fluminense, who are on the other side of the bracket. The title guarantees a total prize of R$ 97.6 million.
