Coutinho scores, but Vasco lose comeback to Mirassol in Brasileirão

Vasco did not start the Brazilian Championship well and lost 2-1 to Mirassol this Thursday, in the interior of São Paulo.

How was the match?

First half

The match started at a fast pace. Vasco created the first chance in less than a minute. Andrés Gomez was sent through, got past the defender, and shot straight at Walter. Mirassol responded right after. Renato Marques was played into the box and even dribbled past Léo Jardim. However, the striker lost his angle and passed to Alisson, whose shot was saved by the goalkeeper.

Vasco had more possession but did not pose much threat to the home side. Mirassol, on the other hand, took advantage of the spaces left by the Rio team and threatened at the 15-minute mark, with a shot by Renato Marques that was stopped by Léo Jardim. Soon after, Negueba shot dangerously after a mistake in Vasco's build-up play.

But at the 20-minute mark, Vasco opened the scoring. Puma Rodríguez crossed and Coutinho appeared to head the ball into the net. In the play, Coutinho collided with defender João Victor and both suffered head cuts.

The setback forced the home team to attack more intensely. Mirassol equalized at the 31-minute mark. Renato Marques took advantage of a cross, headed it, and saw Cuesta try to clear but send it into his own net. The goal was credited to the São Paulo player.

With the score level, the match became balanced again. This scenario remained in the final minutes, with Mirassol and Vasco alternating possession. Thus, the draw held until halftime.

Second half

In the second half, Mirassol came back stronger and turned the match around in the eighth minute. After a mistake in Vasco's build-up, Alesson made a beautiful pass to Eduardo. The midfielder shot and, with a deflection off Thiago Mendes, fooled Léo Jardim.

After the goal, the match lost intensity. Mirassol started to manage the result. Vasco tried to push forward but struggled with a lack of creativity.

The match did not change until the final minutes. The Rio team increased their possession and went in search of an equalizer. Vasco tried shots from Andrés Gomez and Andrey but left the field defeated in the interior of São Paulo.
