According to CoventryLive, the £7.7 million striker has travelled with Frank Lampard’s squad to Portugal for their pre-season training camp despite being sidelined in recent weeks with an injury issue.

The American spent time on international duty with the United States as part of their team competing in the CONCACAF Gold Cup under Mauricio Pochettino earlier this summer.

However, an Achilles injury ended his tournament early, leading to him returning to England early to begin his rehabilitation programme.

Wright has reportedly travelled with the Coventry squad for their week-long trip to Portugal as part of their preparations for the new campaign.

While it’s believed that the forward is still rehabbing from his Achilles injury, it’s hoped that this move is a positive sign for his recovery process.

It is also understood that new signing Miguel Angel Brau has also gone with the club to their pre-season camp.

It’s been claimed that Josh Eccles has also travelled, as he continues to recover from a knee injury suffered during the Sky Blues’ play-off defeat to Sunderland.

However, Oliver Dovin and Joel Latibeaudiere did not go with the team to Portugal, with the goalkeeper recovering from an ACL injury that was picked up against Sheffield United, whilst the latter is on an extended break due to recently competing on international duty with Jamaica.

Lampard will be hoping that the week-long trip to give his team the preparation they need to hit the ground running when the season gets underway next month.

Haji Wright travelling for Coventry City training is a good sign ahead of 2025-26 season

Wright has proven an important part of the Coventry squad since his arrival in the summer of 2023.

He’s made 71 appearances in the Championship across the last two seasons, contributing 28 goals and seven assists, with the team coming ninth and fifth in the table, respectively, and him travelling to be with the squad is a positive sign for his rehab process.

The fact Dovin is also injured but didn’t travel shows that it wouldn’t be worthwhile being with the squad if they’re nowhere near coming back.

An Achilles injury can keep players out long-term, but it really depends on the severity of the issue, so the fact Wright is in Portugal might hint that it’s not as bad as first feared.

If he can get on the grass in the coming days, then that will be a positive sign for the forward’s potential availability in the short-term.
