The Sky Blues were unable to land the signature of Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on Deadline Day

Coventry City's transfer window ended up being a mixed bag for supporters, with the club addressing key areas yet falling short of targets in other departments.
The Sky Blues' summer window coincided with Frank Lampard's first pre-season in charge of the West Midlands outfit after taking over from Mark Robins last November, with the club tipped by many to mount another promotion bid after falling short in the Championship play-off semi-finals at the hands of eventual Wembley winners, Sunderland.
City have asserted themselves as one of the second-tier's most consistent outfits in the past three campaigns, having an abundance of experience and dynamic talent which runs through the spine of the squad, particularly in midfield and wide areas.
Despite that being made clear through the likes of Victor Torp, Jack Rudoni, Ephron Mason-Clark and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto among others, it is also the one area of the current crop of players where Sky Blues supporters have been left with a sense of confusion and transfer regret, and such feelings would have only grown following a revelation involving Crystal Palace ace, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
All of Lampard's completed deals throughout the summer came in the defensive department in the form of Carl Rushworth, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Miguel Angel Brau and the Deadline Day capture of Luke Woolfenden from Ipswich Town.
It was made clear that the former Chelsea and Everton boss remained on the lookout for wingers in the final days of the window, despite the fact no names were linked with moves to the CBS Arena as the transfer deadline edged closer.
However, it has since been revealed by Alan Nixon that City were unable to strike a last-gasp agreement with Palace for a permanent deal, which would have seen the aforementioned Rak-Sakyi add further depth and quality in wide areas. This came after local rivals, Leicester City, and 'Old Firm' rivals Celtic and Rangers submitted failed loan bids for the 22-year-old, who enjoyed previous stellar loan campaigns with Charlton Athletic and Sheffield United.
Unsurprisingly, this has left Football League World's Coventry City fan pundit, Chris Deez, rather frustrated, and he has urged the club to dip into the free agent market as a result.
"I think this one's really going to bite us on the backside," Deez told FLW. "Palace were really keen to send the lad out on loan, and they're still looking at options now to send him out on loan to countries where their transfer windows are still open.
"He was fantastic on loan at Charlton, he was fantastic on loan at Sheffield United," he stated.
"Lampard made it very clear with a couple of days to go in the window that we needed a new winger, that he wanted a new winger. He then let Raphael (Borges Rodrigues) go on loan to Wigan. I'm assuming we we're in talks with Rak-Sakyi, so he let Raphael go, and then the deal fell through," Deez debated.
"That's what I'm assuming, because I don't see how you would loan out our only winger cover, regardless of how inexperienced and how little gametime he'd had before then.
"We really need to dip into the loan or free agent markets. There's a few good players out there still, (even though) they're probably past their best and still on big money.
"One of the names that keeps coming to mind is Nathan Redmond," Deez added. "I'm sure he'd be happy to play at this level again and play for Frank Lampard.
"Hopefully he'd drop down to £30,000 per week. I can't imagine he's on much more than that.
"He'd bring a wealth of experience. His legs are, probably, a little bit gone. But, coming off the bench, he'd be an incredible asset to have.
It remains to be seen if Rak-Sakyi moves on loan, with Nixon's aforementioned report stating that the Belgian Pro League was a potential option for the winger.
If he is to remain on Palace's books, it will also be intriguing to see whether Coventry make an immediate return for his signature when the winter window opens on New Year's Day.
However, a short-term deal for a player of Redmond's experience and Championship pedigree would certainly soften the blow, particularly if the 31-year-old is willing to accept a role behind the likes of Mason-Clark and Sakamoto, providing strong cover in place of the inexperienced Borges Rodrigues, who saw a loan move sanctioned.
According to ESTIMATED figures via Capology, Redmond was earning £35,000 per week at Burnley during his two-season stint at Turf Moor, in which he was plagued by injuries, making just 18 appearances for the Clarets.
