So, it's perhaps not a surprise to find out that transfer rumours involving the Sky Blues are already circulating.

According to TEAMtalk, the West Midlands outfit are reportedly weighing up a move for Swansea City striker Zan Vipotnik.

The Slovenian international has been attracting plenty of attention after netting 22 goals in all competitions so far, with a host of Premier League clubs, and Ipswich Town, said to be keeping tabs on his situation as well.

Despite being monitored by the likes of Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Everton, Newcastle United, and West Ham United - not everyone in Coventry is convinced that signing Vipotnik would be a good idea...

Coventry City urged against potential Swansea City, Zan Vipotnik transfer

FLW’s Coventry City Fan Pundit, Chris Deez, does believe Vipotnik’s quality is clear at Championship level, but urges caution given his short track record.

"I like Vipotnik, don’t get me wrong," Deez told FLW. "He’s clearly a very, very good striker, got a really good eye for goal, he’s a great penalty taker as well. Without him, Swansea, you would imagine would’ve probably been in, pretty much a relegation fight without his 20-odd goals.

"But let's not get carried away. He’s had one very, very good season. Last season for Swansea, he scored seven goals. So, we’re not exactly talking about an elite footballer, an elite goalscorer here. He’s a very good player for the level he’s been playing at," the Fan Pundit added.

Having previously been linked with West Ham in the winter window, Vipotnik signed a new long-term contract at Swansea in January, keeping him at the club until 2030.

This means that the Swans hold all the power and are expected to demand a hefty fee if they decide to cash in this summer.

Coventry City told to look at "more proven players" than Swansea City's Zan Vipotnik

There’s no doubt that Deez believes the Slovenian is very talented at Championship level, but he has some reservations about the 24-year-old's ability to replicate that in the top flight.

Deez continued by saying, "If and when we get promoted to the Premier League, I think we need to be looking for players a bit more proven and a bit more consistent than Viponik.

"Obviously, the question is then raised that can we afford a player that has scored more than 20 goals in a Championship season? I don’t know. Can we afford the wages of those players? Probably not."

It's worth noting that In the aforementioned TEAMtalk report, Vipotnik’s rise is said to have drawn comparisons to former Coventry favourite Viktor Gyokeres from 'some' scouts.

Now at Arsenal, he made his own big-money switch from the Sky Blues to Sporting CP in July 2023, which was reported to be £17.5m plus £3.5m in potential add-ons.

The Fan Pundit concluded with, "But, unless we’re going to sell Haji Wright, which would be my choice, is there really much point in bringing in a player who’s scored four more goals than him?

"I’m no fan of Haji Wright, but he’s still scored 16 goals this season. Who knows, he [Wright] might step it up a couple of levels and be an incredible asset for us in the Premier League."

Ultimately, with Swansea likely to sell to the highest bidder, Coventry face a fight on both the financial and competitive fronts if they want to land one of the Championship’s most in-demand forwards.
