Coventry City could make bolster their attacking options for the Premier League by reuniting with Gustavo Hamer
Coventry City can start planning for life in the Premier League following their promotion under Frank Lampard.
The Sky Blues clinched the Championship title in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 thrashing of Portsmouth, putting them clear of the likes of Ipswich Town and Millwall behind.
The club haven’t competed in the top flight in 25 years, with their last campaign in the division coming in 2001.
Supporters have been on quite a journey in that time since, with the team falling as low as League Two amid financial turmoil.
But Coventry can start dreaming of being back in the big time, with automatic promotion secured with games to spare.
It could prove a busy summer at the CBS Arena, with owner Doug King to oversee an important transfer window that could be key to determining whether the squad is ready to compete in the Premier League.

When Coventry lost the 2023 play-off final under Mark Robins, the futures of Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer were clearly away from the CBS Arena.
The forward moved to Sporting, while the playmaker signed for rivals Sheffield United following their promotion to the Premier League.
But three years later, and it is now being reported that the Blades are willing to cash in on Hamer with just 12 months remaining on his current deal.
With the Sky Blues now set to compete in the Premier League next season, perhaps the door could be open to a sensational return to the club.
It was claimed in the January window that Hamer could be available for as little as £6 million, which is a figure that will surely prove tempting for Coventry.
When previously asked about his return to the CBS Arena, FLW’s Coventry fan pundit Chris Deez claimed that bringing him into the team would make a lot of sense if promotion was earned.
He believed that a valuation around £6 to 10 million would make him someone the club should snap up in the summer market.
“If we get promoted, and Hamer is still available for that sort of between £6 and 10 million valuation, then I would absolutely snap him up,” Deez told FLW back in March.
“He’s got that Premier League experience now, he did alright at Sheffield United in the Premier League as well.
“I know they didn’t have a great season, but he was by no means bad for them.
“It would be a real fairytale to see him come back as well, because he was so close in helping us get to the Premier League, one kick away when we lost to Luton at Wembley.
“So it would be nice to experience that with us at some point.
“He is getting on a little bit now, so it probably is a case of sooner rather than later.
“I imagine he would want to come back as well. He’s still got a great connection with the fans, he still attends games and does things in the area, his partner is in charities as well.
“So we’ll always have that connection, and I’m sure after everything that he’s done for the club, and everything we’ve done for him, he would love to try and keep us in the Premier League.”

Coventry will need to bolster their attacking options this summer, even though the club have been quite impressive in the final third this season.
Adding the kind of extra attacking flair that Hamer can provide would be a smart piece of business by Lampard as they take the big step up to the top flight.
While he didn’t work with the 28-year-old before his departure to Sheffield United, he can appreciate what he could bring to the team if he returned.
Not only did he contribute nine goals and 11 assists in his final campaign for the Sky Blues, but he registered four goals and six assists in his subsequent 36 Premier League appearances for the struggling Sheffield United side in 2023/24.
So he has proven that he can be an attacking force in the top flight, and he already knows Coventry, so it shouldn’t take him any time to adjust to new surroundings.
This hasn’t been his most stellar campaign under Chris Wilder, but Hamer has still been a solid Championship performer, proving himself as a versatile part of the Sheffield United squad in the process.
Per stats from Fotmob taken before the 3-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers, Hamer has taken 2.56 shots per 90 this season while still creating 2.36 chances per 90, which are impressive numbers in a side that has suffered from inconsistent results and injury issues.
It would be a dream to bring him back to Coventry this summer, and promotion to the Premier League might now make that a reality.
